Career readiness: Quality of Leadership
Over the course of the path month, I have had numerous opportunities to demonstrate leadership abilities in VEI. The Illinois Leadership Conference on October 24, 2018 inspired me to create a culture of accountability within my own VE class as well as strive to be successful in rewarding others for achievements and taking responsibility for errors. As the CPM of Spectrum, along with Adithya Gogul, I have utilized leadership skills to organize VE tasks including personally performing the job of entering Trade show submissions to the online competitions' site. In addition, I frequently check on the progress of employees in Spectrum, not to micromanage, but to help others and praise individuals for great work. As we as a company are just beginning to understand the processes of VEI, I adjust quickly to an ambiguous environment and also contribute to the discussions at VEI, thus motivating employees to also try their best. The work environment at Spectrum is very welcoming, uplifting, and productive: I am grateful to be able to be apart of this effort and even lead certain major projects for the unanimous purpose of gaining a useful business and social experience.
- SELF-RATING: 4/5. I feel quite proud for finishing my first job as a CPM! I did not think the trade show was successful enough, however, to give myself a perfect rating.
- This leads into my future goals-- I aspire to be more proactive in understanding the processes of VEI and therefore be able to help others to achieve success as well.
Career Readiness: Being Functional in the Workplace
To thrive in a business setting, I must have an understanding of core business skills within a specific industry: in the case of the Tennessee Trade Show on November 18-20, I prepared thoroughly in collaboration with Adithya to ensure that everything was functioning effectively. The financial concepts of sales was applied as us CPMs delved into how to market to customers at the show by employing a noticeably alluring booth banner, engage the passerby with hands-on games and raffles, and finally urge individuals to purchase our products through Point of Sales. My administering of business knowledge was crucial in the process of launching Spectrum's party packages and wireless charger into the net of companies that were seeking such items. In the month of November, I have researched the tasks on VEI Portal and analyzed the techniques in which Spectrum can maximize sales and surpass competition. Thus, the business dynamics in which I conducted helpful services certainly served to contribute to the functionality of the Trade Show booth at Tennessee.
- SELF-RATING: 4.5/5. Since some time has passed, I have been settling into my job as a CPM. I believe that I performed pretty well in the contribution to Spectrum's progress in marketing, then selling our company's numerous products.
- In the future, I hope to communicate more with each and every person in my classroom so that everyone feels involved and I can be a more effective CPM. In addition, I would love to learn more about hands-on skills utilizing technology or other to help carry me further in adulthood.
- SELF-RATING: 5/5. I feel that at this point in the year, I am perfectly capable of handling whichever tasks are assigned to me. I especially am grateful for initiating this trade show prep process early on, leaving entire weeks to finalize our plans, because in previous experiences, getting all the responsibilities in line at the last minute definitely contributed to our company's steady downfall.
- Nonetheless, I look to improve my self-efficacy and believe that I am capable of tackling more challenges. My goal is to contribute more within my company by ensuring that every employee understands the tasks that they must be addressing, as well as the deadlines that must be kept in mind. A crucial aspect of company unity is being on the same page, which begins when everyone is aware of the impending deadlines.

Career Readiness: practicing professionalism
A new year inspires new beginnings. My initiative this month was to fully adopt a mindset of one in an actual workplace. Generally, I am aware of my professionalism in the work place especially: sitting correctly, talking respectfully, and responsibly working is what I have done throughout the month of January. In addition to maintaining professional accountability by not utilizing technology for anything other than productive work in VEI, I worked on creating elaborate slides for beginning-of-class presentations, and I believe I have contributed to the overall enjoyment of company employees.
- SELF-RATING: 3.5/5. While I consistently have a professional persona, I sometimes get carried away in fantastical conversations with peers surrounding me. To be perfectly honest, I do have a habit of snacking on foods like carrots or pretzels during VEI (nothing harmful with allergens though!).
- My future plans are, that hopefully I can focus on working on the task at hand and limit food consumption during class --since that goes against rules of professionalism in the workplace.
Career readiness: contributions of core technology
In February, I had the opportunity to prepare for the upcoming trade show taking place at Neuqua Valley High School in April. In addition to being able to utilize technological resources during class via the mac desktop computer in our VEI class, I learned other online applications. Taking over some of the former responsibilities of our facilitator, we the CPMs took the time to set up a system for the Point of Sales (POS), or a means for customers to make their purchases from Spectrum. Adding all our product packages and soon thereafter, the entirety of Spectrum employees helped us CPMs practice our technology skills and benefit the company as a whole.
- SELF-RATING: 5/5. Sorting out technical plans for the local trade show was relatively simple; we completed the task successfully and efficiently.
- For later demands in technology, I hope to provide my aid in being attentive in setting up technology to help with future plans.
